A Comprehensive Overview of Air India

History of Air India

Air India, originally known as Tata Airlines, was founded in 1932 by the visionary industrialist J.R.D. Tata, who pioneered India’s aviation industry.

Initially, it provided mail and cargo services between cities in India. After World War II, in 1946, Tata Airlines became a public limited company and was renamed Air India.

In 1953, the Indian government acquired a 49% stake in the airline, and by the same year, it became fully nationalized.

For several decades, Air India was India’s flagship carrier and achieved milestones such as launching non-stop flights between India and the United States.

However, by the early 2000s, Air India faced increasing competition, financial challenges, and mounting debts, eventually leading to its privatization in 2021.

Tata Sons reacquired the airline, marking a historic reunion that revived hopes for a renewed, competitive future.

How Air India Survived Financial Challenges

Air India has encountered multiple financial setbacks over the years, largely due to rising operational costs, competition, and certain management challenges.

Several measures have contributed to its survival despite these challenges:

  • Government Bailouts and Assistance: The Indian government provided multiple financial bailouts to support Air India and manage its debt.
  • Cost-Cutting Measures: The airline implemented several cost-cutting strategies, including fleet optimization and renegotiating contracts.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Air India collaborated with other carriers through codeshare agreements, expanding its reach and increasing load factors.
  • Privatization: The re-privatization under Tata Group opened new avenues for investment and improved operational management, which is expected to improve profitability and market competitiveness.

Reasons to Choose Air India for Travel

  • Wide Domestic and International Network: Air India offers an extensive network, connecting major cities in India and international destinations across the globe.
  • Competitive Fares: As a national carrier, Air India often provides competitive fares, especially for long-haul flights.
  • In-Flight Experience: Air India’s in-flight services, such as Indian cuisine, generous baggage allowances, and comfortable seating, cater well to long-haul travelers.
  • Direct Flights: Air India offers direct flights to destinations like New York, Chicago, and London from various Indian cities, making it a convenient choice for international travelers.
  • Loyalty Program: Air India’s Flying Returns program offers frequent travelers reward miles and other perks.

Common Passenger Complaints about Air India

While Air India has made significant strides in improving service, some common passenger complaints include:

  • Delayed Flights: Frequent delays have been a concern, especially in domestic operations.
  • Customer Service: Some passengers have reported challenges with responsiveness and assistance from customer service.
  • Aging Fleet: A portion of Air India’s fleet, though improving, is still perceived as outdated, affecting the comfort of the journey.
  • Baggage Handling Issues: Instances of delayed or lost baggage have been a recurring complaint.
  • Maintenance of Interiors: Certain aircraft interiors are sometimes seen as needing more upkeep compared to other international carriers.

What Makes Air India Unique Compared to Other Airlines?

  • Indian Heritage and Hospitality: Air India represents India’s rich heritage with its hospitality and culinary offerings, especially on international flights.
  • Government-Mandated Routes: Air India services several non-profitable routes within India to remote areas that private airlines do not cover.
  • Specialized Services: Air India is known for special services on pilgrimage routes, such as to Jeddah for the Hajj pilgrimage, catering to specific passenger needs.
  • Exclusive Destinations: Certain routes, especially to remote areas within India, are only covered by Air India flights, offering access to lesser-served regions.

Domestic and International Destinations

Air India connects to numerous destinations, both domestically and internationally:

  • Domestic Destinations: Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and more. Air India also reaches remote regions such as Leh, Port Blair, and areas in the North-East like Imphal and Dimapur.
  • International Destinations: Key routes include the United States (New York, Chicago, San Francisco), Europe (London, Frankfurt), and Asia (Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai).
  • Unique Routes: Air India operates direct flights from India to the U.S., Europe, and Australia, often connecting secondary cities in India to international hubs without stopovers.

Exclusive Destinations Served Only by Air India

Some destinations are only reachable via Air India flights due to government mandates or route exclusivity, such as:

  • Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands): Access to Port Blair is limited, with Air India being one of the few carriers operating regular flights.
  • Certain Northeastern Routes: Air India connects several smaller cities in the Northeast, such as Lilabari, Tezpur, and Agartala, providing connectivity to otherwise hard-to-reach areas.
  • Leh (Ladakh): Flights to Leh, given the challenging terrain, are largely served by Air India as it has the operational infrastructure to handle high-altitude conditions.

Europe's problem has become world's problem

G20 is a group of 20 countries for addressing world's problems. Many of these countries of G20 group are developing countries.

G7 is a group of 7 countries that address world's problems. All these countries of G7 group are developed countries.

Several other intergovernmental forums at international & regional levels are also working to address different international & regional problems. Few of them are;

- QUAD (America, Australia, Japan & India).

- SCO (Shanghai Corporation Organisation).

- BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

- Commonwealth countries.

Many countries of one group belongs to another group. For example; G7 countries are also members of G20.

This makes, unfortunately, overlapping of problems discussed in one group with another group.

2022 summit of G20 group was celebrated in Bali & chaired by Indonesia.

India recieved presidency of G20 group in Bali summit to organize in 2023 the G20 summit in India.

After a summit of Finance Ministers of G20 countries in Bengaluru, India has organized two days summit of foreign ministers of G20 countries in 1-2 march, 2023. This summit is attended by representatives of 40 countries and multiple international organizations, including the foreign ministers of China, the US and Russia. This is a largest G20 foreign ministers' gathering in history of G20 meetings.

After meeting of Finance Ministers, the participating G20 countries did not reach a consensus to release a declaration of summit. Russia & China opposed to include Western countries supported paragraphs in the draft of declaration stating that Russia is the main reason of Ucrain invasion, & Russia & Ucrain war. It is somehow to justify Russia as an offender of world's problems which other countries including European countries are suffering due to high price, blocked supply chains, food & energy security.

No declaration is released after G20 summit of Foreign Ministers due to same reason. Russia & China opposed to texts written in the draft of declaration.

India is constantly abstent in UN votings on USA & its allies, specially European union, supported agendas to ban Russia internationally. There is a fight on to demonstrate who is dominant over international politics as it seems.

USA & European union want to expand NATO coverage area & Russians want to stop this expansion.

Ucrain becomes a battle ground for them.

Both parties of Ucrain & Russia war which started in Feb 2022 are trying their best to bring India in its side because India follows a non alliance policy from Nehru's era.

-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------

India believes in multipolar power distribution in international politics, not in bipolar politics which is currently in hands of USA & Russia.

That's why India is buying oils from Russia & sidewise it is supplying medicines etc to Ucrain for Ucranians population.

USA, Germany, France, Italy & many other main countries of European politics are constantly attempting to how to make pressures on India so that India can stop buying oil from Russia or somehow they are able to show India is in their favour such as through declaration of G20 summit.

Foreign print & television media of news are constantly raising several questions on India. Last year, in 2022, in European meetings, they have asked several questions to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, mainly were to clarify that India's side on the issue of Ucrain & Russia war, specially they questioned on the purchase of oil from Russia. To clarify India's position in Ucrain Russia war, last year, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had stated a statement in an interview with a popular Western news channel.

"Somewhere Europe has to grow out of the mindset that Europe’s problems are the world’s problems but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems. That if it is you, it’s yours, if it is me it is ours. I see reflections of that,” he said.

This statement of the External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar turns into a very popular statement of debate in social media, news channels & international politics.

Few main European leaders, for example, German Chancellor, made a statement in favour that European union has to thoroughly think on "Europe’s problems are the world’s problems but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems" before he started his official visit to India.

Italian young Prime Minister also did a two days visit to India as a chief guest and keynote speaker at the 8th Raisina Dialogue organized in Delhi. She praised Indian Primer Minister Narendra Modi for his role in International politics & urged India to play a central role for ending Russia Ucrain war.

Surprisingly, Italian Prime Minister responded to India Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's statement in Europe ""Europe’s problems are the world’s problems but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems".

"Unfortunately Europe's problem has become today world's problem," she said in Raisina Dialogue in India

Attack & counterattack through verbal statements, anyone can accept without any problem but a war in which peoples of both sides are dying are not acceptable in any case.

US, European union, India, China, Russia & Ucrain, and all engaged parties must have to block jointly first to those reasons due to which peoples are dying, without offendening any party involved in Russia Ucrain war.

It's good to return India after 20 years in Europe 🌍

Many Indians have a question in mind that it is good to return India after living so many years in abroad.

I am an Indian and live in Spain from last 20 years. I reached Spain in 2003 and started my research work, then one by one job contracts and gaining some good friends kept me within in Spanish territory, even within one city.

I know very well it´s tough finding friends at a new place where social culture, thinking, communication language, tradition and more important, body colour, are different. India is completely different from Spain. There is no any relation and comparison India to Spain.

I remember when I arrived to Granada, a city situated at southern Spain, it seems me like I am living in a jail. People are talking in Spanish which I was unable to understand. They looked at me with very strange eye and sometime I was afraid. Still few people see me with strange eye but I have no problem with them. May be they have never seen an Indian person but i meet every day many peoples of different countries and talk with them in three language which I know.

Two and three times I have been attacked, and one time I have been followed by peoples considering that I am illegal immigrant and they can trap me easily, even they offered me a job and a house etc.

I remember many times peoples of the religious groups stopped me and tried to convince me that I must join their religious groups.

Moreover, all these events happened and still some time I have to face. Now I become use to.

The happy thing for me is I succeed to make few friends in Spain and incorporate in Spanish society. I know many of you think I married with some Spanish girl, thus, I succeed to incorporate in Spanish society. Then, you are wrong. I am a social person little bit but also it is truth I am very tough person. I am good if you are good with me, otherwise I start to ignore you. Yes, I never harm and had harmed any one intentionally. Unintentionally I don´t know. Yes, I suffer regularly with comments that create stress unnecessary and normally I engulf most of them showing that nothing happens. I have a tolerable behaviour which we need for surviving a place where no one is from your place or family. You are alone and you have to fight for surviving.

Thus, the summary of the story is I am totally adjusted in Spain now on living 20 years.

Now I have to return on main question "It is good to return India after 20 years living in Spain".

I am fighting with this question from last 2-3 years. My family in India does not agree with my stay in Spain. They continuously are saying to return to India and look for a job in India. I discussed this issue with many people including directors of some big Indian research institutions. All of them, including my friends working at top position of public institutions in India, informed me for possibility to get a job in private universities and R&D enterprises but they rejected to get easily in public institutions. Yes, it is possible to get a job in public institutions if I work for long time inside Indian territory.

Moreover, I was looking an answer of this question with an example; for example, someone already has done a shift from Europe or America to India and can share experience. Means I was looking a fact based answer, not only the suggestions.

I remember that one of my students, who is an Indian, when return to India, did temporary works in few Indian institutions, but at last he become a follower of a famous Indian Guru and now he works for him as a Yoga Guru, giving online-offline classes of yoga at national and international level. Question is where has gone his trainings of many years in science and research fields.

I have one more example. He was my classmate at college, then, he spent many years in Indian institutions, and after that he lived few years in USA for research works. I considered he was a well trained person in scientific field. But he also become a Sadhu (Guru) on returning to India.

I don´t know why they preferred spiritual route.

I remember another person also but he returned to India suddenly because he got a job. I am sure that someone was already there making a position for him. Soon he married also. It smells something but I cannot say.

Moreover, I was searching an answer and at last I found one person who belongs to friends circle of one of my friends. He lived many years in America, then in Europe as I have been informed. I took an appointment with him to have a talk over phone, of course, over WhatsApp to avoid the cost of a call from Spain to India. In urgent case I do internet phone call directly to mobile phone of my friends and family members in India, otherwise, I use WhatsApp for doing a call and have a talk. Purchase 🛍️ from Our Collections.

I did him a call and we started to talk. I was curious to know many things. My first question to him was why did he returned to India. The answer was due to circumstances as I was expecting. The kids are growing and we have to give them Indian environment. Many people return to India due to this reason after living a long time in abroad. This person also return to India due to this reason. Moreover, I don´t have any kid, so I don´t have such boundance.

Now he provided me another reason. He lived many places in abroad and worked in many institutions for long time, but he did not get any job to settle at one place. Most of the jobs were temporary. He had to find next job after every few years. So he was tired with this action. Every few years he has to worry for next job. In Europe, first priority is for their own people. This was the second reason why he took decision to return because now India is a 5th economy of the world and has many private universities and R&D institutions who are looking for foreign return workers. Because they consider it may facilitate obtaining the grants at national and international level.

This person got a job first as a visiting professor, then he joins a big private university as associate professor.

My next question was how did he get the job in India. Answer is quite interesting. First, he tried to get one in India by submitting application & attending the interviews from Europe, but he did not receive any positive results. Then, he decided to shift to India with family and searched a job living inside the Indian territory. In 6 months he got first one and then in few months he got the second one. From second job position he is very happy because he is receiving enough money as a salary.

Indian salary is not bad. My friend earns more than me. He is in India at home living with family and I am in Spain at home living alone.

My next curiosity was to know how did he find job vacancies.

His answer was by visiting the online job portals and applying online. He sent me few of them and asked me to start to apply 6 months before you have plan to shift to India because it takes time in recruitment procedure. Moreover, I was happy to know that he succeeded to find one, so I am sure I will also find one. My other friends also suggested me same.

According to them India did and continuously is doing progress towards to people prefer private than public job. Private jobs are well paid now in India and due to this reason, many public job holders are leaving their jobs and shifting to private jobs.

Nevertheless, in public job one has more freedom to go at home any time, take vacation any time, can avoid to go office for few days without informing anyone, less working hours, of course, many others which you do not find in private job. Private job is for showing talent and achieving targets anyhow which is assigned to you. In Europe, we have same pressure "work for achievements, not for satisfaction" and this is same either we are working in private or public institutions.

I did one more question asking him for how he and his family feels now on returning to India after living many years in USA and Europe.

Changes are there, of course, and we have to adapt the situation. American and European facilities are different than India such as climate, road, hospital, bank, school, sport, bar, restaurants, weekend our door stay, visit of some touristic place in weekend etc and above to all, crowd of peoples which we don´t find in USA and Europe but this is also true that India is 2nd largest country in population. Due to the reason of public crowd, we have to spend hours and hours for finishing one task, which we were able to finish in 15 minutes in USA and Europe.

His family, especially wife adapted quickly the situation but kids took enough time to adapt the situation. Many time they complained that they don´t like and they prefer previous house. Even he himself took time to adapt the situation.

But he made a mindset to return before shifting and this strong mindset supported him to overcome the problems of new situation.

Therefore, he recommends me to make a strong mindset first to overcome daily issues which you will face at a new place in India.

I don´t have any family obligation such as kids grow in Indian culture, not in American or European culture, therefore, he recommends me don´t do a shift in hurry. Take your time. When you reach to a situation where you find that it is necessary to do a shift to India, then do it without hesitation. We are Indian by birth, and we know very well the Indian culture and Indian style of living.

I am still looking for few more examples. If you have shifted to India, please contact me contact@Latestfoto.com and share your experience to publish it with this article. Of course, it is to help other fellow Indians who are in a tense situation to decide to shift or not shift to India after living many years in abroad.

Story is still not finished.

Misuse of UK India Free Trade Agreement 🤝

First of all I clearify that I am not an economist, politician or business person, but I am a general public who read everyday so many newspapers for to be aware what's going in whole 🌍🌎 world. From last few days, a news is published regarding misuse of UK India free trade deal which becomes a debate issue in UK & Indian territories.
----------------------------------------------------
You can reserve ✈️ & 🛏️  through a Best Deal & also can find items 🛍️ from Our Collections
-----------------------------------------------------
UK and India were very close to the date to sign a free trade agreement, but the home minister of UK said in an interview that this agreement can become a base to the huge numbers of Indian immigrants move to UK & stay in UK.

Free trade agreement is done when two countries agree to provide extra facilities to each other over rest of the countries in trading business. For example, US and Australia 🌏 🦘 have signed a free trade agreement in 2005. Due to this agreement, Australian agricultural products are free from US tariffs & many others are duty free when Australia exports them to USA & similarly Australia makes tariffs or duty free to US products. It's very clear the Free Trade Agreement allows the permission of GIVE & TAKE of a country.

UK was previously the part of European Union, although it implemented partially EU rules & regulations for securing its own interests. European Union is a union of most of EU countries & many associated countries, thus, UK was having a big area for trading. But Brexit makes European Union to strictly block all trades with UK. This causes UK to loose a big trading territory which impose a big impact on UK trade.

Consequences of Brexit obligate the UK to find new trading partners. Current Russia and Ukraine war, & UK expenditures in arms delivery to Ukrainian army makes an increase in the pressures on the UK political & business community to find new business territory as earliest.

China is under top five biggest economy but entry of foreign trades in China market is not easy. Nevertheless, China business policy is to Made In China but Sell In Foreign.

China is the highest populated country and consumption of China made products and services is very high. Due to this reason, China is not a very attractive place for foreign business. Foreign traders face limitations in doing business.

Another side, India is 5th largest economy in all over the 🌎🌍 world & India allows any country to enter its business territory & do business. Consumption of products & services made in out of India is very high. Indian policy doesn't impose limitations on foreign traders. A product must stand in varieties of products available in India. India is the second largest country in population. Thus, Indian policy is to buy & consume more & more. This makes India at a top place in trading relations in foreign countries.

India produces millions of talented professionals every year skilled to tackle the challenges through its institutions best in education & trainings. Nevertheless, India never restricts these skilled professionals to work only for India as many other countries do or make a specific policy to attract them for home return. In recent years brain drain becomes a hot topic for politicians & public, & several options are launched to make easy home return & contribute in economy growth with experience gained in a foreign country.

Thus, India considers two crucial capacities for trade agreement negotiations:

 - Consuming power; a foreign trader can do business in India. (GIVE).

- Export of skilled professionals; they need facilities for visa, stay, entry in businesses & endeavors, loans etc overall to make easy the procedures. (TAKE).

After Brexit, due to economic imbalance, UK needs India to open its territory for goods & services of UK because India is only one biggest market of whole world with billions of people. Free trade agreement allows to sell goods & services in Indian territory at their production rates because they are at low or no tariffs or duty free.

The opposite site of business mirror confirms that a huge production & business task management require a sufficient numbers of skilled professionals. India is one of the top countries exporting business professionals all over the world 🌎🌍.

Most of advanced countries (USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France etc) have policies to impose limitations on entry & a long stay of foreigners to restrict the immigration, change of population demography & shortage of job opportunities & facilities available at social level. Thus, they try to rejuvenate & keep the best one in their territory.

Millions of skilled person from India try to migrate every year to advanced countries. These people face the difficulty to prepare & present many documents as well as long waiting time in visa procedures & approval in embassy. On visa approval they can only stay for few months or 1-2 years, then, again they have to follow the procedures of visa renewal. Besides, restrictions in foreign facilities (bank or public loans, public grants for family or business, unemployment grant etc) as well as higher taxes than a native coworker pay make India to demand from the foreign country more facilities for Indian skilled personals under free trade agreement.

UK recieve many Indian skilled professionals every year to cover their shortage in UK territory. Because lack of skilled people certainly block the development, management & supply of goods and services of UK to India. But most of these professionals face one or more problems during immigration to UK or inside the UK. Therefore, India & UK, both governments are trying to reach an agreement to provide options to facilitate easy immigration of skilled professionals to UK under free trade agreement.

Nevertheless, it is also truth, as seen from past experience, these may facilitate immigration to UK of illegal people who are not skilled professionals as well as many of these unskilled and skilled professionals become burdance to economy of the UK, for social services & society due to their poor contributions in growth of the UK. This is what the home minister of UK is trying to emphasize in her interview. But it cannot be avoided that UK needs a good workforce to do business & benefits in favor. UK home ministry needs to tackle the pressures to proceed timely the visa applications which they receive in future under free trade agreement.

Noteworthy, the parents of the home minister of the UK are from India. Many of the team of the current PM of the UK have Indian origin. The candidate of the PM, who was opponent of the current PM, was also from Indian origin descendents. Many mayors, city council members, politicians & business personals are from India descendents who immigrated to UK many decades ago. All of them including home minister herself do contribution in economical, social & political growth of the UK.

Under free trade agreement UK is to recieve a big market as well as a tained work force and both are provided by India. Thus, free trade agreement will certainly produce a big impact on trade in favour of the UK which can create a more stable UK economy. So it is unnecessary to raise such question in an interview which makes Indian politicians & government officers furious & speak against her opinion.

This is not a misuse of UK India free trade agreement 🤝 if one think with open mind of the rising of global trade market in recent years & management competitiveness.

Airtel data connection for internet VERY BAD

I am visiting myahara desh India for holidays. I live in Spain but do regular visit of India in holidays month. I am habitual of Internet use to read newspapers, make videos on my creativity and upload them on YouTube, watch political debates, and lectures of academicians, now there are several on internet, write my blogs, do investigation on issues to find solutions and thus develop my technical knowledge & skills. So I am quiet used to of internet.

Now how much do I pay for data connection on my mobile phone in Spain & India.
------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
In Spain, I pay only 7 euros for 20 GB for one month & I never faced problems with internet speed. The contract is for 4G+ data connection & my mobile allows 4G+ data connection. 7 euros is equal to 560 rs. Of course, sometimes in remote villages & forests or on top of mountains I faced that there is no connection but those are remote areas.

Now we talk situation in India.

Every few weeks I read in newspapers, & watch on television 📺 that Indian Government has launched & is promoting 5G internet service within Indian territory, thus, in India people can enjoy the internet based services. Overall government is trying to make an environment in India in favour of internet use either it is for personal use or business purpose.

Akash Ambawani, exactly I donot remember who is leading telecom sector of Ambawani group, but I remember that this group has launched & is leading 5G data connection in India.

When I read such news from outside of India, then I get excited and feel very happy thinking that we (India, Indians or whatever recognition you want to give yourself but all of us are Indians) are progressing.

But when I reach India, every year I find situation is different on data use to get internet connection in my mobile. Every year I have to face same problem. I have used BSNL, JIO, Vodafone, and many other popular internet data service providers.

This year I am using Airtel. But all of them have same problem. Either there is no good data connectivity during entire day although my mobile phone show 3G, 4G, 4G+ connection, or after getting good connectivity during few hours of a day, it becomes very slow or stop to show websites or search engines take enough time to show the results of your query.
I consider not very good internet connectivity in India if I compare it with Spain, however both have 4G or 4G+ data connection. I use same mobile phone in India & Spain.

Only I change my SIM when I enter in India & same I do when I enter in Spain.

Previously I have already mentioned that I am using SIM of Airtel company this year. I visited a shop, specific for mobile phone, internet etc, to know offers of Airtel for unlimited internet data connectivity & phone calls. The shopkeeper used his mobile phone to  provide me a package for 2 months on rs 479 payment.
He informed me that I will get only 1.5 GB data connectivity every day but I can do unlimited call. Now the question arises at this point.

If I am working online, do you think 1.5 GB data is enough.

In my family, kids keep off data connectivity in their mobile phones & they open it only during online lectures from school side or for many homeworks, notifications, exam results etc which they receive online from school side.

Indian government, I can say the present Modi government has to think regarding it because Modiji & BJP leaders talk always to develop & establish a broad online education system in India, even universities.

But why a student has to worry for internet connectivity? A student must have to worry only for study materials, concentrate on study & exam preparation, not for mobile phone has data connectivity or not.

This everyday 1.5 or 2 GB data is not enough as I consider.

Of course, if you are working in a company, the situation is different. The company provides you unlimited data connectivity or wifi connections. But here is a common man's situation.

Airtel provides me 1.5 GB every day but every day I find the internet is not working or become very slow after lunch.
I donot have pacience for waiting 10-20 minutes for a content of news website appears & I read it. I have many other works to do. At afternoon, not only it is so slow, it stops to work although my mobile phone shows 4G / 4G+ data connectivity.
Due to all these reasons I am very unhappy because many works/tasks which I finish very quickly in Spain, now in India it takes hours & hours to finish.

Now I understand why my family members always say me that it's not easy from India when I try to assign a task. They know perfectly limitations in finishing a task due to data connectivity.

Even you can find on YouTube, many indian YouTubers say that it takes a lot of time in uploading a video. Some of them do at 4 am at morning when everyone is sleeping. At 4 am there is less numbers of internet users, therefore data connectivity will be good, I suppose.

I also come to know Vodafone is one company in India that retains the data of each day which is not used and adds to next day data. Suppose you donot use 0.5 GB today, then next day you will have a total 2 GB data (1.5 GB of next day + 0.5 GB of today).

In case of Airtel and others, either you use or not 1.5 GB daily data, but that will not added to next day data. You only get a total of 1.5 GB data connectivity each day.

I had a chat with my friends regarding this issue of data connectivity for internet, they said me 'Welcome to India'.

Some of them said me I should file a case against telecom sector, thus 'Sabhi ka Kalayan Ho Jayega'.

Nipah Virus in India

Complete Guide on Outbreaks, Symptoms, Causes, Prevention, and Public Health Response

The Nipah virus (NiV) is one of the most dangerous emerging infectious diseases affecting India in the 21st century. Though rare, Nipah virus outbreaks have repeatedly caused alarm due to their high fatality rate, rapid transmission potential, and absence of a definitive cure or vaccine. India has experienced multiple Nipah virus outbreaks since 2001, particularly in West Bengal and Kerala, making it a recurring public health challenge.

This in-depth article provides fact-based, research-backed, and up-to-date information on Nipah virus in India, including its origin, transmission pathways, outbreak history, epidemiological data, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, prevention strategies, and future preparedness.

What Is Nipah Virus?

Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus belonging to the Henipavirus genus of the Paramyxoviridae family. Zoonotic viruses are those that can be transmitted from animals to humans. Nipah virus was first identified in 1998–1999 during an outbreak among pig farmers in Malaysia and Singapore.

The virus is named after the village of Sungai Nipah in Malaysia, where it was first detected. Since then, Nipah virus has been recognized as a priority pathogen by the World Health Organization due to its epidemic potential.

Natural Reservoir

Why Fruit Bats Matter

The natural hosts of Nipah virus are fruit bats of the genus Pteropus, commonly known as flying foxes. These bats do not show symptoms of illness but can shed the virus through saliva, urine, feces, and partially eaten fruits.

India has a large population of fruit bats, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Studies conducted in Kerala, West Bengal, and northeastern India have confirmed the presence of Nipah virus antibodies in bat populations, indicating continuous viral circulation in nature.

How Nipah Virus Spreads

1. Animal-to-Human Transmission

Humans can become infected through direct contact with infected animals or their secretions. This includes:

  • Handling bats or pigs infected with Nipah virus
  • Exposure to bat urine or saliva on fruits
  • Consumption of food contaminated by bats

2. Foodborne Transmission

In South Asia, especially Bangladesh and parts of India, consumption of raw date palm sap contaminated by bats has been identified as a significant transmission route. Although this practice is less common in India compared to Bangladesh, contaminated fruits are suspected sources in several Indian outbreaks.

3. Human-to-Human Transmission

Human-to-human transmission has been clearly documented in Indian outbreaks, especially in healthcare and family settings. Close contact with body fluids such as respiratory droplets, saliva, blood, and urine increases the risk of infection.

This mode of transmission makes Nipah virus particularly dangerous, as it can spread rapidly in hospitals if infection control measures are inadequate.

Nipah Virus Symptoms and Clinical Progression

The clinical presentation of Nipah virus infection varies from mild symptoms to severe, life-threatening illness.

Early Symptoms

  • Sudden onset of high fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Vomiting
  • Sore throat

Respiratory Symptoms

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Acute respiratory distress

Neurological Symptoms

One of the most severe features of Nipah virus infection is encephalitis, or inflammation of the brain, which may lead to:

  • Confusion and disorientation
  • Altered consciousness
  • Seizures
  • Coma within 24–48 hours

The incubation period typically ranges from 4 to 14 days, but cases with incubation up to 45 days have been documented.

Nipah Virus Case Fatality Rate

Nipah virus has one of the highest fatality rates among viral diseases. Globally, the case fatality rate (CFR) ranges between 40% and 75%, depending on outbreak response and healthcare access.

In India, some outbreaks—particularly the 2018 Kerala outbreak—reported fatality rates close to 90%. Improved early detection and rapid containment have helped reduce mortality in later outbreaks.

History of Nipah Virus Outbreaks in India

West Bengal Outbreaks (2001 & 2007)

The first recorded Nipah virus outbreak in India occurred in Siliguri, West Bengal, in 2001. A total of 66 cases were reported, with a fatality rate of approximately 68%. Most infections occurred among healthcare workers and family members, highlighting hospital-based transmission.

In 2007, another outbreak occurred in Nadia district, West Bengal. All five infected individuals died, reinforcing concerns about the virus’s lethality.

Kerala Outbreaks (2018–Present)

Kerala has emerged as the most affected state in India in recent years.

  • 2018: The first major outbreak in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts resulted in 23 confirmed cases and 21 deaths.
  • 2019: A single confirmed case was successfully contained with no further spread.
  • 2021: One fatal case reported in Kozhikode, with rapid containment.
  • 2023: Multiple confirmed cases in Kozhikode district led to extensive contact tracing and isolation.

Kerala’s strong public health system, experience with previous outbreaks, and rapid response mechanisms have been critical in limiting large-scale spread.

Diagnosis of Nipah Virus

Laboratory confirmation of Nipah virus infection is essential and includes:

  • Real-time RT-PCR tests
  • Virus isolation in specialized laboratories
  • Serological tests to detect antibodies

In India, diagnostic testing is conducted by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, along with designated regional laboratories.

Treatment Options

Why Supportive Care Is Crucial

Currently, there is no approved antiviral drug or vaccine specifically for Nipah virus. Treatment focuses on:

  • Intensive supportive care
  • Ventilatory support for respiratory distress
  • Management of neurological complications
  • Strict infection control practices

Experimental treatments, including monoclonal antibodies and antiviral agents like ribavirin, have been studied, but definitive clinical evidence remains limited.

Public Health Response in India

India’s response to Nipah virus outbreaks involves coordinated action between central and state governments. Key measures include:

  • Rapid identification and isolation of cases
  • Extensive contact tracing
  • Quarantine and monitoring of high-risk contacts
  • Temporary closure of schools and public spaces
  • Public awareness campaigns

Healthcare workers are trained in infection prevention protocols, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is widely deployed during outbreaks.

Prevention Strategies for the Public

Although vaccines are not yet available, individuals can reduce risk by following preventive measures:

  • Avoid contact with bats and sick animals
  • Do not consume fruits bitten by bats
  • Wash fruits thoroughly before consumption
  • Practice regular hand hygiene
  • Follow health advisories during outbreaks

Why Nipah Virus Is a Global Concern

Nipah virus is classified as a WHO priority disease because of its pandemic potential. Factors such as urbanization, deforestation, climate change, and increased human-wildlife interaction may increase the risk of future outbreaks.

Future Outlook

Research and Preparedness

India is actively involved in global efforts to develop vaccines and therapeutic options for Nipah virus. Strengthening disease surveillance, investing in public health infrastructure, and promoting community awareness remain essential strategies.

Conclusion

The Nipah virus remains one of the most serious emerging infectious threats in India. While outbreaks have been limited in scale, the virus’s high fatality rate and ability to spread between humans demand constant vigilance. Through early detection, rapid response, and sustained research, India continues to strengthen its capacity to prevent and control future Nipah virus outbreaks.

Awareness, preparedness, and science-based public health action are the strongest defenses against Nipah virus.

Khalistan

Khalistan! Why does this word suddenly come to our attention nowadays?

Because we have seen a sudden increase in the numbers of the news related to Khalistan.

Even on YouTube the numbers of Khalistan related video contents are drastically increased.

Therefore, anyone will try to know what is Khalistan as we did after reading few of those news and watching few YouTube videos.

We saw a YouTube shorts of Indian home minister Amit Shah's interview in which he was talking about Khalistan and the actions taken by the Indian government.

Through news, we came to know that,  in Canada, USA & Australia 🦘🌏, people wearing turbans of different colours on their heads did manifestations with flags of yellow colour on which it is written "Khalistan".

-----------------------------------------------------
When we investigated to know more in detail, we found that these people are Sikh, a community of a religious group which live in a province "Punjab" located within Indian territory.

All of these people now live abroad, out of India, such as in Canada, Australia, USA etc.

From abroad these Sikhs organise such march to show their solidarity with a demand of making Punjab province as an independent country.

Punjab is one of the richest provinces of India as Maharashtra is economically.

Sikhs of Punjab continuously do migration to abroad for living & earning.

Similarly people of Kerala province migrate in bulk numbers to live & work out of India.

Every family of Sikhs and Keralites has someone living out of India.

Both provinces are rich.

With time these communities have developed very good networks of family and business between India and abroad which allows them to immigrate to another country.

Many of them immigrate using illegal ways of immigration.

Punjab is on top for wheat production & Kerala is for its big tourism industry.

Tons of wheat are exported every year from Punjab to abroad.

Similarly millions of foreigners visit Kerala every year as tourists due to their beautiful beaches.

Both have good resources to generate money &, thus, to be strong economically.

They have much better living conditions than any other part of India.

But Punjab, situated in northern India, is at the border of Pakistan.

However, Kerala, situated in south India, does not have any border with any neighbouring country.

Of course, Sri Lanka, a very small county, is located at the end of the southern India.

The difference in relationships with these countries and India is well known.

India has conflict with Pakistan from many years, but not with Sri Lanka.

In 1947, when India became independent from the British regime, Punjab province was divided in two parts;  East Punjab & West Punjab.

West Punjab is given to Muslim-dominant Pakistan and east Punjab to Hindu-dominant India.

Due to this reason many families of Punjab province of India have their relatives in Pakistan.

Pakistan uses this relationship to provoke Sikhs for demanding from India, Punjab as an Independent country named "Khalistan".
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
Pakistan supports the groups of these provoked Sikhs economically, and provides them arms & training for operations in Punjab territory.

This allows them to perform terrorist activities in Punjab province, thus it can create unstable & unsafe territory.

It is very similar as Pakistan is doing in Kashmir, the top north territory of India.

During the period of government of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in the mid 80s and 90s, the terrorism in Punjab reached at its extreme stage.

Few religious leaders, who were leading the movements of Khalistan with the support of Pakistan, were closed to declare that Punjab is now an independent country and they named "Khalistan".

Golden Temple, the topmost religious centre of Sikhs, was the headquarter of these Sikh militants.

On the reports of intelligence agencies, Mrs Indira Gandhi ordered the Indian army to attack on the Golden temple & make this religious place free from militancy.

The Indian army attacked the Golden Temple & many of these Sikh militants died in this attack.

We were kids during that period.

We remembered perfectly that we were traveling in a public bus with our aunty to arrive at her village to spend a few days of our summer vacation.

We are located far away from Punjab province.

On that day, suddenly, a bus full of Indian military personnels & their arms, machine guns & many others equipments installed on windows and roof of the bus came speedily from back of our bus.

They were asking everyone to leave the road & go on the footpath.

The bus was having a loudspeaker to announce the orders.

Our bus driver also followed the order as others drivers of vehicles were doing.

He immediately left the main area of the road & tried his best to keep the most part of the bus on the footpath.

Of course, the footpath on either side of the road is not so wide where a bus can be adjusted fully due to the big size of the bus.

But he adjusted the bus in the space somehow.

My aunty had started praying to the god.

Other travellers were also a little bit afraid.

Because the army was cleaning the road from the crowds of vehicles.

There must be a very serious concern which all of us felt.

After a few minutes another bus came very speedily from back with Sikh army personnels, guns etc installed on windows and roof of the bus.

All of these buses were running at very high speed.

Back to this 2nd bus another 2-3 buses were running.

It seemed all of them were chasing something.

First one was clearing the road to avoid the accidents & casualties of civilians.

After a few minutes everything became normal.

We reached the village of our aunty without any problem.

Of course, the driver managed to drive the bus very slowly, carefully, and adjusting the bus inside the footpath as much as possible during this period of horror.

As fellow travellers my aunty was also afraid and she kept praying 🙏 to god during the whole bus journey.

We were kids so we did not understand anything at that time except that we were watching everything surprisingly.

Few days later someone in my family told us the first bus was the Indian military bus, the second bus was the military personal, mostly Sikhs, who were against Indian government, and last 2-3 buses were Indian military bus who were chasing the 2nd bus from Calcutta and trying to stop them before reaching to Punjab but without causalities.

To avoid causalities the first bus was ordering the people to leave the road with their vehicles as much as possible.

We were on a main road of a long distance journey "Grand Trunk Road" that starts from Calcutta ports to reach Afghanistan and other central Asian countries.

Presently it is a highway.

At last the Indian army managed to stop the 2nd bus somewhere many kilometres far away from us on the road.

Now when we think about that incident we can easily measure the depth of Khalistan movement in the mid 80s and 90s.

After the achievements of the Indian army, the appointments of the best administrative officers of the Indian army, and the police & civil services of India in Punjab province made this province free (or limited movements) from militancy.

But now the Khalistan movement is in operation from outside of India.

Sikhs living in Canada, USA, Australia 🌏 and many other countries (Reserve ✈️ & 🛏️ a Best Deal) are supported by different governments, agencies, NGOs, civil societies.

These non-resident Indian Sikhs are provoked to march with banners & flags demanding for Khalistan.

Most of the time we have seen in videos that they are walking with Pakistan flags also.

This means Pakistan's direct involvement in organizing such activities abroad.

The population of migrated Sikhs is very high in numbers in Canada, therefore, most news of Khalistan movement are released from Canada.

The Indian government has raised several times with the Canadian government the concerns of Khalistan movement in Canada.

Time to time, to make pressure, the political leaders of the Khalistan movement have organized referendums for Khalistan.

Nevertheless, all of these actions are organized in foreign countries which are away from the legal system of India.

Many of participants of Khalistan movement still have Indian passport, and they are PIO or OCI card holders.

This means they still prefer to visit India because their roots are in India although they live out of India.

Many of them prefer to die in Punjab after retirement from job.

Politics is the politics of few people to make their political careers.
