Worst Place on the Plane – Don’t Choose These Seats!

Choosing the right seat on a plane can make the difference between a comfortable journey and a stressful, exhausting experience. While many travelers focus on getting a window or aisle seat, they often overlook the fact that some areas of the aircraft should be avoided altogether. If you want a smoother, quieter, and more enjoyable flight, here are the worst places on the plane—and why you should never choose them.

1. The Last Row (Back of the Plane)

The last row is widely considered the worst place to sit on an airplane. While it might seem convenient due to proximity to the rear exit, it comes with several major disadvantages:

  • Seats often don’t recline
  • Close to noisy bathrooms
  • Constant foot traffic from passengers and crew
  • Limited overhead bin space

Additionally, food service usually starts from the front, meaning passengers in the last row may get fewer meal options or even miss out on their preferred choice.

2. Seats Near the Toilets

Sitting near the lavatories might seem convenient, but it’s one of the least desirable spots on the plane.

  • Unpleasant odors
  • Long queues of passengers waiting
  • Frequent door slamming
  • Lack of privacy and quiet

These seats are particularly uncomfortable on long-haul flights, where restroom usage increases significantly.

3. Middle Seats (Especially in Economy)

Middle seats are rarely anyone’s first choice—and for good reason:

  • No direct access to aisle or window
  • Limited personal space
  • Armrest conflicts with neighboring passengers

On long flights, being stuck in the middle can feel extremely cramped and uncomfortable.

4. Seats Near the Galley (Kitchen Area)

The galley is where flight attendants prepare meals and drinks, making it a busy and noisy area.

  • Bright lights throughout the flight
  • Noise from carts, dishes, and crew conversations
  • Passengers gathering while waiting for service

If you’re trying to sleep or relax, this is definitely not the place to sit.

5. Seats Over the Wings (Limited View)

While seats over the wings are more stable during turbulence, they are not ideal for everyone.

  • Blocked window view
  • Less exciting for first-time flyers or photography lovers

If you enjoy scenic views during takeoff and landing, you’ll be disappointed here.

6. Exit Row Seats (Not Always Ideal)

Although exit row seats offer extra legroom, they come with restrictions and responsibilities:

  • Cannot store bags under the seat
  • May not recline
  • Must assist in emergencies

These seats are not suitable for everyone, especially if you want a relaxed journey.

7. Seats Close to Engine Area

Seats near the engines (typically around the wings) can be quite noisy.

  • Constant engine noise
  • Harder to sleep or concentrate

Noise-sensitive passengers should avoid this area.

8. Bulkhead Seats (Front Row of Sections)

Bulkhead seats may seem attractive, but they also have drawbacks:

  • No under-seat storage
  • Fixed armrests reduce width
  • Often near bassinets (crying babies)

This can make long flights less comfortable than expected.

Do Airlines Offer Discounts or Free Seats for These Areas?

Short answer: Yes—but not in the way you might think. Airlines don’t “discount” the worst seats specifically… but they often give them to you for free if you don’t pay for seat selection.

Most airlines follow a simple system:

  • Good seats = paid (front, aisle, window, extra legroom)
  • Bad seats = free (back rows, middle seats, near toilets)

If you skip seat selection, the airline will assign you a seat at check-in. In many cases, this means you may end up with the last rows, middle seats, or seats near toilets or the galley. This is because airlines prioritize selling the better seats first.

Low-cost airlines like Ryanair, easyJet, or Frontier Airlines follow this model very strictly. You pay if you want to choose your seat. If you don’t pay, you get a random seat, which is often not ideal.

Even full-service airlines such as Emirates, Lufthansa, and British Airways use a similar approach on cheaper tickets. While higher fare classes may include seat selection, basic fares often come with random seat assignments.

There are some exceptions. Airlines like Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and ANA may offer free standard seat selection, but premium seats like exit rows or front rows usually still cost extra.

So technically, the worst seats are often free—but you don’t choose them; they are assigned by default when you skip paying for seat selection.

Airlines don’t sell bad seats cheaply—they simply give them away for free when you don’t pay to choose.

Tips to Choose the Best Seat

Now that you know what to avoid, here are a few quick tips:

  • Choose seats in the front half of the plane for quicker boarding and exit
  • Pick window seats for better rest and views
  • Select aisle seats if you need frequent movement
  • Use seat selection tools before booking

Conclusions

Not all airplane seats are created equal. Avoiding the worst places—like the last row, near toilets, or close to the galley—can significantly improve your travel experience. A little planning goes a long way in ensuring a smoother, more enjoyable flight.

Next time you book a ticket, don’t just pick any seat—choose wisely and travel comfortably!

Belgium Joins Growing List of Nations Updating Travel Advisory for the U.S.: What It Means for Travelers

As the United States tightens its border policies, Belgium is set to join countries like the Netherlands, Canada, France, Germany, Denmark, the UK, and Finland in updating its travel advisory for its citizens.

This move comes in response to an increasing number of incidents involving European travelers facing heightened scrutiny, detentions, and even deportations upon arrival in the U.S.

For Belgian travelers, this raises critical questions:

What has changed in U.S. border enforcement?

What risks do they face?

And how can they prepare for their trip to avoid unnecessary complications?

This article provides an in-depth analysis of the evolving situation and offers expert advice on navigating the new travel landscape.

Why Are Countries Updating Their U.S. Travel Advisories?

Several European nations have updated their travel alerts due to a series of alarming cases where their citizens faced extended detentions at U.S. immigration centers. For instance:

  • A German tourist was detained for 16 days after border agents found a previous entry stamp from Mexico, leading to suspicion of unauthorized work in the U.S.
  • A Welsh backpacker was held for nearly three weeks after failing to provide sufficient proof of his travel itinerary and return plans.
  • A Canadian woman was detained for 12 days due to a minor visa discrepancy.

These incidents suggest a growing trend of stricter immigration enforcement, possibly influenced by political pressures and policy shifts under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Key Policy Changes Affecting Belgian Travelers

While U.S. immigration laws remain the same, their interpretation and enforcement have become more stringent.

Belgian travelers should be aware of the following:

1. Increased Secondary Inspections

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers now conduct more frequent and rigorous questioning at points of entry.

Even travelers with valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approvals may be pulled aside for additional screening.

2. Longer Detention Periods and Limited Access to Legal Help

If flagged for further inspection, travelers may be held in detention centers for extended periods. Unlike domestic legal procedures, travelers do not have an automatic right to legal representation at the border.

3. Greater Focus on Travel History

U.S. authorities are increasingly examining a traveler’s past visits, especially if they have been to countries perceived as “high risk” or have frequently entered and exited the U.S. in a short time frame.

4. Social Media Screening

Border agents may request access to a traveler’s social media accounts to verify the consistency of their travel claims.

Posts that suggest remote work or extended stays in the U.S. could raise red flags.

What This Means for Belgian Travelers

The revised travel advisory does not mean Belgian citizens are unwelcome in the U.S.

However, it underscores the need for careful preparation and compliance with immigration requirements.

Travelers should take the following steps to reduce their risk of facing border issues:

1. Prepare Documentation in Advance

Before departing for the U.S., ensure you have the following:

  • Valid passport and ESTA authorization
  • Proof of return travel (airline tickets, travel itinerary)
  • Hotel reservations or accommodation details
  • Letter of invitation if visiting family or friends
  • Evidence of financial means to support your stay (bank statements, employer letters)

2. Be Prepared for Extensive Questioning

Expect CBP officers to ask about:

  • The purpose of your visit
  • Your employment status in Belgium
  • Your planned length of stay
  • Any previous visits to the U.S. and surrounding countries

Answer truthfully and confidently, providing documentation when necessary.

3. Avoid Carrying Work-Related Items if Traveling on a Tourist Visa

Bringing work laptops, professional equipment, or discussing freelance work with border officers may create suspicions of unauthorized employment.

Stick to tourist-related responses unless you hold the appropriate work visa.

4. Be Mindful of Social Media and Digital Content

Since social media checks are now more common, remove any posts that could be misinterpreted as evidence of extended stays or unauthorized work in the U.S.

What to Do if You Are Detained at the U.S. Border

In the unfortunate event that a Belgian traveler is detained:

  1. Remain calm and cooperate – Aggressive behavior can escalate the situation.
  2. Request to contact your embassy – Belgian citizens have the right to inform their embassy, which may assist in ensuring fair treatment.
  3. Do not sign documents without understanding them – Signing forms under pressure could lead to voluntary removal or travel bans.
  4. Document your experience – If released, report your case to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for record-keeping and legal advice.

Comparing U.S. Entry Policies to Other Countries

While the U.S. has become stricter, how does it compare to other nations with strong border control policies?

  • Canada: Uses similar questioning tactics but generally allows detained travelers access to legal representation.
  • Australia: Has a strict visa policy but provides more transparency on denial reasons.
  • UK: Denies entry more frequently but detains visitors for shorter periods compared to the U.S.

Final Thoughts: Should Belgian Travelers Be Concerned?

Belgium’s anticipated travel advisory update is not a ban but a precautionary measure to ensure its citizens are well-informed.

While most Belgian travelers will enter the U.S. without issue, the risk of prolonged detentions or entry denials is higher than in previous years.

By staying informed, prepared, and compliant with immigration rules, travelers can reduce the likelihood of encountering problems at the border.

Belgian authorities recommend checking for updates regularly and following best practices when planning U.S. trips.

For those with concerns, consulting with travel lawyers or embassies before departure can offer added peace of mind.

In the evolving world of international travel, knowledge is the key to a smooth and stress-free journey.

Ponte Vecchio Bridge History, Facts, and Travel Guide

Ponte Vecchio is one of the most iconic landmarks in Florence, Italy. This medieval stone bridge, spanning the Arno River, is famous for its history, stunning views, and unique architecture. Whether you are a history buff, a travel enthusiast, or someone looking for the perfect photo spot, Ponte Vecchio is a must-visit destination.

History of Ponte Vecchio

Built in 1345, Ponte Vecchio (which means "Old Bridge" in Italian) is the oldest bridge in Florence. It was designed by Taddeo Gaddi and has survived wars, floods, and centuries of wear. Unlike most medieval bridges, which were primarily functional, Ponte Vecchio became a hub for merchants and artisans.

Originally, butchers and tanners occupied the bridge, but in 1593, Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici ordered them to leave due to the bad smell. He replaced them with jewelers and goldsmiths, a tradition that continues to this day.

During World War II, Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge in Florence not destroyed by retreating German forces. Instead, the access points were blocked to prevent crossings.

Architecture and Unique Features

Ponte Vecchio is a stone arch bridge with three main arches. Unlike most bridges, it features built-in shops, giving it a distinctive appearance. The Vasari Corridor, an elevated passageway above the bridge, was constructed in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari for the powerful Medici family, allowing them to move between the Palazzo Pitti and the Uffizi Gallery without mingling with the public.

Key Features:

  • Shops on the Bridge: Jewelry stores, art dealers, and souvenir shops line both sides.
  • Vasari Corridor: An enclosed walkway used by the Medici family.
  • Locks of Love: Though discouraged today, many couples have left locks on the bridge as a symbol of their love.
  • Panoramic Views: A perfect spot for breathtaking views of the Arno River.

Things to Do at Ponte Vecchio

1. Shopping for Unique Jewelry

Ponte Vecchio is home to some of Florence's best jewelers and goldsmiths. Whether you're looking for a luxury piece or a small keepsake, the shops here offer timeless craftsmanship.

2. Enjoy a Romantic Walk

The bridge, especially at sunset, offers a magical atmosphere. Take a leisurely stroll and soak in the historic charm.

3. Visit the Vasari Corridor (When Open)

Although currently closed for renovations, the Vasari Corridor occasionally opens for tours. It offers a unique perspective on the bridge and Florence’s history.

4. Explore Nearby Attractions

  • Uffizi Gallery: One of the world’s most famous art museums, located near the bridge.
  • Palazzo Pitti: A historic palace with stunning gardens.
  • Piazza della Signoria: A lively square with sculptures and cafes.

Best Time to Visit

The best times to visit Ponte Vecchio are early morning (to avoid crowds) and evening (for a romantic atmosphere). The bridge is beautiful year-round, but spring and autumn offer the most pleasant weather.

Opening Hours and Entry Fee

  • Open 24/7 (since it is a public bridge).
  • Free to visit, but some nearby attractions require a ticket.

Travel Tips for Visiting Ponte Vecchio

✔ Avoid peak hours (10 AM – 5 PM) to experience a quieter atmosphere.
✔ Keep an eye on your belongings, as crowded tourist areas can attract pickpockets.
✔ Capture stunning photos during sunrise or sunset for the best lighting.
✔ Combine with a walking tour to learn more about Florence’s history.

How to Get to Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio is centrally located in Florence and easily accessible by:

  • Walking: It’s a short walk from major landmarks like the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria.
  • Public Transport: Take Florence’s city buses to "Ponte Vecchio" or nearby stops.
  • Taxi: Available but not necessary since Florence is a walkable city.

Conclusion

Ponte Vecchio is more than just a bridge; it’s a symbol of Florence’s rich history and artistic beauty. Whether you're visiting for its architecture, shopping, or simply to take in the views, this historic landmark should be on every traveler’s itinerary.

Lose 3 Kilograms of Muscle Mass During a 12-Hour Flight

The claim that a person can lose 3 kilograms of muscle mass during a 12-hour flight is not scientifically accurate.

There is no direct evidence to suggest that such a significant loss of muscle mass can occur in such a short period of time.

Let's explore why this isn't logical or supported by science:

Is it true or scientifically proven?

Muscle Loss in Short Timeframes: Muscle mass is lost due to extended periods of inactivity or malnutrition, not within a 12-hour timeframe.

Muscle atrophy (wasting) typically occurs over days to weeks of immobility or extreme calorie deficiency.

During a flight, people are inactive, but not for a long enough period to experience significant muscle loss.

Weight Fluctuations on Flights: During long flights, weight changes (if any) are more likely due to fluid retention or dehydration, not actual muscle loss.

Cabin air is dry, which can lead to dehydration, causing water weight loss, but this is temporary and does not affect muscle mass directly.

Astronaut Research: In extreme cases like space travel, astronauts may lose muscle mass due to prolonged weightlessness over weeks or months, not hours, even though they have specialized exercise routines to prevent this.

Why don't flight pilots and attendants lose weight?

Pilots and flight attendants are regularly on flights, often longer than 12 hours, but they do not experience dramatic weight loss for several reasons:

Muscle Maintenance: Regular exercise and a balanced diet maintain their muscle mass.

Short-term inactivity, like sitting for a long flight, isn't enough to cause muscle atrophy.

Hydration and Nutrition: They hydrate and eat appropriately before and during flights.

Inactivity and the confined space might cause some discomfort, but not drastic physical changes.

Flight Duration: The body doesn't lose muscle rapidly in just 12 hours of inactivity.

Long-term muscle loss happens over weeks or months without exercise, not within hours.

Why do we read about this in the news?

Sensationalized or misleading health claims sometimes spread in media without scientific backing.

A claim about losing 3 kg of muscle mass on a flight is likely misunderstood, exaggerated, or inaccurately reported for attention.

Misinterpretation of Weight Loss: A common source of confusion is the loss of water weight during flights, which can temporarily lead to a drop in body weight, but this is not the same as muscle loss.

Top Searched Questions and Answers:

Q: Can you lose weight during a flight?

A: You might lose water weight due to dehydration, but you won't lose muscle mass or fat from inactivity alone during a 12-hour flight.

Q: Why do I feel tired after a long flight?

A: Long periods of inactivity, dehydration, and changes in air pressure can cause fatigue.

Q: How can I prevent dehydration on long flights?

A: Drink plenty of water throughout the flight and avoid excessive alcohol or caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration.

Q: Is it possible to gain weight after a flight?

A: Some people experience bloating or water retention from sitting for extended periods or eating salty airplane meals, leading to temporary weight gain.

Q: What happens to your muscles on long flights?

A: Short-term inactivity won’t lead to muscle loss, but standing and walking during the flight can improve circulation and prevent stiffness.

Suggestions and Tips for Long Flights:

Hydrate Well: Drink water before, during, and after the flight to combat dehydration.

Move Around: Walk the aisle or do light stretching every few hours to improve circulation and prevent muscle stiffness.

Compression Socks: These can help reduce the risk of swelling and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) from prolonged sitting.

Healthy Snacking: Avoid heavy, salty snacks that can contribute to bloating and dehydration.

Opt for fresh fruits or protein-rich snacks.

Exercise Before and After the Flight: Engaging in physical activity before or after the flight can help maintain muscle mass and overall fitness.

In conclusion, the idea that you can lose 3 kg of muscle mass during a 12-hour flight is not scientifically supported.

Any weight change you experience is likely due to fluid shifts, and not muscle or fat loss.

Regular movement and staying hydrated are the key to staying healthy during long flights.

Weight of A Bag for Flight Journey

I live in Spain and originally I am from India.

I travel annually 2 times to and fro journey in any airline, now a days in Etihad Airways, between India and Spain.

In India I have to do a domestic flight journey also to reach my city.

Thus, I have one international journey and one domestic journey.

Two different airways I use for these journeys.

Weight allowed by Domestic airlines

Domestic airline allows me to carry only 15 kg in a check-in bag and 7 kg in a hand bag.

Additionally, I can carry a laptop bag for my laptop.

Airline allows Maximum weight of laptop bag is 3 kg.

Weight allowed by International airlines

International airline allows me to carry only 31-35 kg in a check-in bag and 7 kg in a hand bag.

Additionally, I can carry a laptop bag for my laptop.

My question

I do first domestic journey to reach to a international airport.

According to rule I only can carry 15 kg in my domestic check-in bag although the rule allows me to carry 31-35 kg in international check-in.

Due to this limitation of domestic flights, I am only able to carry 15 kg weight in check-in bag for international flight.

Nevertheless, I saw people carrying 2-3 big bags at international airport.

Solution

I discussed this issue with two airline representatives when I was collecting my boarding pass for my international journey.

They informed me that I have to look whether airline provide me:

31 kg per piece check-in bag?

31 kg total weight in check-in bag?

I have to give special focus on "per piece bag" and "total weight".

If it is "total weight", in this case, I can carry 2-3 bags but total weight of bags must be 31 kg.

That's why I saw people carrying 2-3 bags.

Beyond this weight limit airline will charge me.

Domestic airline allows per piece weight for check-in bag.

Therefore, I can carry only one check-in bag of 15 kg.

Beyond this limit, domestic airline charge me 550 RS per extra kg of weight in my check-in bag.

However, airline people suggested me to do a pre-booking of 1 extra bag to carry more than 15 kg weight for your domestic flight.

This will be much cheaper than paying money for each extra kg at the domestic check-in counter.

There is no problem with International check-in because 31 kg weigh in 2-3 bags is allowed for check-in by the rule and regulations of aviation authorities.
