Story Setup (No Spoilers)
The Drishyam films follow Vijay Salgaonkar, an ordinary man who goes to extreme lengths to protect his family after an accidental death. Over two films, the Salgaonkar family has managed to keep the truth buried, and Vijay has stayed one step ahead of the authorities each time.
The Conclusion continues from where Drishyam 2 ended. According to the makers, it has a fresh story and an entirely new screenplay. This time, SP Crime Branch Rajveer Singh Tomar takes charge of the case and is determined to find the truth. Old questions come back into focus, new forces enter the game, and the result is another battle of wits between Vijay and the State.
The release date is also a nod to the series. The film came out on 2 October, the same date that is central to the events of the first film, which longtime fans will appreciate.
Cast and Characters
- Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, the quiet, sharp-witted family man at the centre of the story.
- Tabu as IG Meera Deshmukh, the officer whose personal loss drives the confrontation with Vijay.
- Shriya Saran as Nandini, Vijay's wife.
- Jaideep Ahlawat as SP Rajveer Singh Tomar, the new Crime Branch investigator who joins the franchise.
- Prakash Raj, a new addition who raises the stakes.
- Rajat Kapoor, returning from the earlier films.
- Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant in supporting roles.
Performances
Ajay Devgn: Vijay works because he never looks like a hero. His power is that he appears to be doing nothing. Devgn's performance is excellent.
Tabu: Meera Deshmukh has been one of the emotional anchors of the series, and her fight with Vijay carries real moral weight. Tabu's performance and her scenes are excellent.
Jaideep Ahlawat: Ahlawat is known for patient, watchful intensity, and he takes over a role that Akshaye Khanna played in Drishyam 2. At the trailer launch he said he never felt he was stepping into someone else's shoes. His performance and his scenes are excellent.
Supporting cast: Shriya Saran, Prakash Raj, Rajat Kapoor and the others are excellent in their performances and scenes.
Direction and Screenplay
Abhishek Pathak directed Drishyam 2 and returns for the finale, this time also co-writing the script. The franchise depends on slow-building suspense, family emotion and a final act that changes how you see what came before. The screenplay is tight, the pacing holds in the first half, and the climax is satisfying. However, the story itself is not of high quality. There is nothing new or unique in it.
Music, Cinematography and Technical Side
Goa is almost a character in these films, and the makers even launched the trailer there at INOX Panjim. The background score, cinematography, editing and sound design are all excellent.
Franchise Background
The franchise began with the 2013 Malayalam film Drishyam, written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal. The Hindi version, directed by Nishikant Kamat, released in 2015, and the story has since been remade in several Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. The Malayalam Drishyam 3 released in May 2026, and the Hindi film is billed as a fresh take rather than a straight remake.
Box Office and Audience Response
Drishyam: The Conclusion opened strongly. Trade trackers estimate around Rs 62 crore net on day one in India, which would be Ajay Devgn's biggest opening day and one of the biggest Hindi openings of 2026. Estimated worldwide gross for the first day is around Rs 90 crore or more. These figures are early trade estimates and may change as official numbers come in.
Early audience reactions on social media were largely positive, with many fans calling it a fitting finale. Before release, trailer reactions were mixed, as some viewers felt the franchise was being stretched. Ajay Devgn addressed this at the trailer launch, saying the team felt this film should be the conclusion.
Critic reviews and ratings are mixed but generally satisfactory.
What Works and What Doesn't
Everything worked except the story. It was difficult to understand what story the film wanted to tell, and nothing in it felt unique.
Final Verdict
Drishyam: The Conclusion is worth watching once in theatres, especially for suspense lovers and fans of the franchise. The performances, background score and technical side are excellent, and the climax is satisfying. However, the story is not new or unique, and it was difficult to understand what the film wanted to say. That is why I am giving it an average rating.
My rating: 2.5/5
I will not watch it again.
