I expanded the list into a practical reference you can use to compare heritage/“palace” hotels that are on or very near Varanasi’s Ganga ghats. For each entry I give: the hotel name, the ghat or neighbourhood, the street/address when available, whether it’s actually on the river steps or just nearby, an approximate distance to the nearest major ghat (Dashashwamedh, Assi or Manikarnika), and a ballpark price note with a booking-source citation.

   • Address: marketed as Assi Ghat frontage (check exact room type for “Ganges-view” frontage).
   • On-river? Marketed as riverfront / immediate Assi-Ghat property (verify room selection when booking).
   • Approx. distance to Assi Ghat: 0 m (fronting Assi).
   • Price note: often priced like an upscale/heritage property — several booking sites warn prices are comparable to high-end hotels.

3. Palace on Steps / “Palace On Step” (Dwivedi Hotels / small palace-style guesthouse)

4. Hotel Ganges Palace (name used by several small properties)

   • Location / ghat: varies — some “Ganges Palace” listings are riverside, others are in Susuwahi / inner neighbourhoods not directly on main ghats. Always check the address.
   • On-river? Not necessarily — some properties using “Ganges Palace” are near the river but not on the main ghats; confirm before booking.
   • Distance to major ghats: varies — could be riverside or several kilometres away depending on the exact property.
   • Price note: wide range — budget to mid-range; check Agoda/GoIbibo for the specific listing.

5. Heritage Haveli (several small restored havelis / homestays near the ghats — example listings)

   • Location / ghat: multiple small havelis are near Assi or within 300–800 m of the ghats (marketed as “Heritage Haveli” / “Heritage Homestay”). Example listings place some ~500 m from Assi.
   • On-river? Usually near the ghats and occasionally have rooftop Ganga views — but not always located directly on the riverside steps. Verify “Ganges view” or “on the ghat” in the room description.
   • Distance to major ghats: typically 0.3–1 km depending on the property.
   • Price note: generally budget to mid-range (homestays / boutique haveli rooms), often cheaper than the large heritage palace hotels.

• Verify “on-ghat” claims in the room description: many listings use “palace” or “on the Ganges” as marketing. Always check the exact address (and the map on bookings sites) to confirm whether the room has direct ghat access or simply a rooftop/view.
• BrijRama Palace is the clearest, well-documented example of a true palace-turned-heritage hotel on the ghat (Darbhanga/Munshi Ghat).
• Assi Ghat properties (like Palace on Ganges) are prime for sunrise/sunset Ganga views but can be more expensive and have limited true riverside rooms — confirm which room type sits on the façade.
