It is observed on the 14th night of the waning moon in the month of Phalguna (February–March).
Devotees fast, offer prayers, and stay awake all night, chanting Shiva mantras and visiting temples.
The festival symbolizes the union of Shiva and Parvati and is believed to be a time of spiritual awakening and self-discipline.
Many people also perform Rudrabhishek (ritual bathing of the Shiva Lingam) with milk, honey, and water.
