or now one of the biggest things is some of these channels do really well at you know, $12 cpms some even go as high as $34 cpms and some of them are insanely low under that $2 CPM Mark and those are the channels that I surprised me the most and today we're going to talk about what a million views looks like for a tech YouTube channel specifically because I think a lot of people who Are looking starting a tech YouTube channel should know this information before we get started. I wanted to explain what CPM is as cost per Milli. Milli means per thousand views. Okay, so if you have a $2.00 CPM your cost per thousand views is $2.00 right this interns translates to a million views to $2,000. So you kind of understand what that term means now, this is pretty much.
base everything off of so my tech YouTube channel has the Louis CPM out of all my YouTube channels carry it right and if you look at my Google analytics, it will tell you that I have a nine dollar CPM, which is actually really high. However, only 19% of My Views are monetizable on my tech YouTube channel right compared to some of my other channels seeing as high as eighty one. percent of My Views being monetizable and that is a huge huge difference. So the main reason for this is going to be ad blockers. Let's the only thing that makes sense to me so effectively my CPM on my tech YouTube channel is a dollar and eight cents a dollar and eight cents, which is by far the lowest CPM out of all my YouTube channels, you might be wondering if this CPM is just for my techies.
To panel and I can tell you right now it's not I was able to confirm this with three other Tech YouTubers that have subscriber Counts from a hundred thousand to five hundred thousand and some of them even had worse cpms than me, which was crazy and some only had about eight to ten cents higher than mine. So for a million views Google paid me 1084 dollars for a million views. It is insane. It really is. That's one of the reasons why I have such a hard time even doing videos on that channel cuz I can do videos on any of my other channels and make more money and a lot of times any shorter period of time than it takes me to make a video on my tech YouTube channel a tech YouTube channel review minimum is going to take you three hours start to finish right? There's b-roll. There's you know, writing the review there's uploading their editing right and I can cut a break that down into let's just say
We're not going include using the product because a lot of the products that I can do use or do review are things that I've already used and day out like a keyboard or monitor or headphone. It takes me about 30 minutes roughly to write the review about 30 minutes to film the review about 30 minutes to edit the review then I take about 30 minutes to write up the b-roll shots and film them right and then roughly about another 30 minutes to probably import and re-edit an Port and then maybe another 30 minutes to write the description. So you're talking three hours minimum and that is me editing fats. That is a really solid workflow doing everything in three hours and getting it up online. I don't think you can do a technical review faster than that right and if you can you might be talking about shaving off 30 minutes not anything more so that's the problem if you know, I'm making $10 off of reviewing it.
three hours to do one see the problem interest it from a financial standpoint. It just doesn't make sense for me to do videos on that channel anymore, which is unfortunate because I really liked it. And I also enjoy that right, but when I started doing other YouTube channels, it really opened up my eyes to wow the CPM over here is horrible like horrible like I make 10 times that on a channel that takes me 30 minutes to film a video. Right and then takes me 30 minutes to edit it and 30 minutes to upload it literally almost half the time it takes me to do one of my videos on the reviews Channel and I'm a chemist 10 times more. Is it impossible to grow a tech YouTube channel,? The answer is no you can totally grow a tech YouTube channel. It is not impossible, right, but I want people to have realistic expectations going into it on what to expect from a CPM standpoint, right? You can't expect to make
him dollars per thousand views you can even expect two dollars per thousand views as a tech YouTuber, especially when you're first starting out you're looking at a Max of maybe a dollar or dollar fifty right? I mean, it's really really bad, but it's not impossible. So if you wanted to make a living off a tech YouTube channel, yeah if you wanted let's just say $2,500 a month is going to pay. Probably most of your bills right say that's a situation you're in you only need two point five million views a month and to grab my notebook here. So yeah, 2.5 million views a month is about eighty three thousand views per day. You're not going to be making most of your money off cpms. Right what you're going to make most of your money off of is going to be affiliate money, right? I made way more money through my affiliate links on the reviews Channel that I have actually views, right?
But it kind of puts you in a weird situation right? Because then you don't really want to do reviews on products that don't have affiliate links, right and it's not because you're trying to be greedy, right A lot of times especially starting out taking YouTubers are literally just trying to make enough to break even on their channel. So I'm my saying you shouldn't be a tech YouTuber. That's not what I'm saying, right because there are ways of making money as a tech YouTuber. It's just not going to be through cpms.
A lot of its going to be heavily dependent on your affiliate links, right affiliate link money, you know, it's kind of hard for me to say because a lot of my affiliate links accounts are linked to multiple YouTube channels, but if I had to take a guess, I would say that the reviews affiliate link money is probably somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 dollars so still not a huge amount of money, right not even a livable amount of money, right, but that's still 10 to 20 times more that I made from Google ad Revenue. I'm not saying it's impossible to make a techie YouTube channel and make it work and be successful at it, right, but what I am telling you is that from a genre standpoint, right? It is the worst performing CPM Channel that I own right in even if you add in the affiliate money that I've made off that channel and compared that with my other channels, it's still one of the worst, right? And I think people should know this before.
or choosing to go in and make an account and actually pursue having a tech YouTube channel, right again, it's not impossible, but it's going to be hard and thenit's also one of the hardest of genres to break into because it's so so oversaturated. What do I mean by that if you look up tech reviews right or look up review and YouTube and set your days to say past 30 days right count how many videos there are if there's more than like a thousand Tech YouTubers making videos in the past 30 days so hard drawn ra to break into right now compared to some other channels right like there are channels that are about RC planes right more Niche but less competition and that's kind of one of the things that I've realized that helps me breakthrough with some my YouTube channels is that I pick genres that are not over saturated, right and there's a difference between a channel being over.
it and then channels growing and riding a wave and I might do a video explaining that because there is a difference right? Like for example, I would say a smart channels are oversaturated right but a year ago, it was a way right where it looked like it was over saturated from a person looking from the outside., but because it was growing and emerging right if you made a a smart Channel around that time you would have been able to ride that wave is so there is a difference there the tech YouTube space This is very oversaturated compared to other genres again here on the platform.
